The Impact of COVID-19 on Survivors
The news is loud and clear: “Stay at home”. But what does this mean for the 6,000+ women and children who access shelter and victim support services every night in Canada?
Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society is partnering with Kelowna Women's Shelter to raise awareness of the realities facing women across the country due to intimate partner & family violence. As essential services in our community, we are committed to supporting women & children throughout this challenging time when barriers to accessing help are higher than ever.
Domestic and sexual abuse and violence are an unfortunate reality for many in our community, even when there isn’t a pandemic affecting access. Together with your help, we're working to make sure that the most vulnerable in our community are still served and able to access #SafeSpaces - Because home is not a safe place for everyone. Please donate so that we can continue our work to help survivors of domestic violence in this heightened time of need.
How Are We Helping?
During this time of critical need, Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society is continuing to support survivors through remote & virtual specialized victim assistance, crisis response, safety planning, and trauma therapy for adults and youth who have experienced sexual and domestic violence. Support can be accessed by calling (250) 763-4613 or at info.efry@coefs.ca.
The Kelowna Women’s Shelter is continuing to provide access to shelter services, essential supplies, counselling, safety planning & outreach support for women and their children fleeing from domestic abuse.
Support can be accessed through the 24/7 Emergency Helpline at (250) 763-1040 where a counsellor is able to consult on the safest course of action.
